How do you write a good room application message? + examples!

Your message is extremely important for securing an invitation to a house viewing ('hospi'). To do this successfully, these clever tips will help you stand out.

Tip 1: keep it brief

Two paragraphs are sufficient. The rest can be discussed during the viewing!   🤩

Tip 2: select appropriate photographs

Showcase yourself, and include a photograph with friends, at a festival, or enjoying your hobby. This immediately gives households a sense of your personality. A picture is worth a thousand words.👀

Tip 3: describe yourself as a housemate

This is the key element. Households seek someone who fits in. Therefore, please explain: Is your door always open? Do you enjoy sharing meals? Or do you prefer your own space? Illustrate what it is like to live with you; that is what they want to know:)

Tip 4: use one of these messages as inspiration

"Dear residents,

While browsing through the Nijmegen Student Room groups, I came across your posting. I felt compelled to respond! My name is Henco Schaap, I am 21 years old, and I am currently thoroughly enjoying student life in Nijmegen. However, as my sublease is nearing its end, I am looking for a new room. Your advertisement looked excellent, which prompted me to send this email.

What can I offer you? I am easy-going, enjoy a good drink, and my door is always open. Furthermore, I spend almost every weekend in Nijmegen and have been living in student accommodation for some time. Your advertisement also mentioned that you regularly undertake activities together. I would be delighted to participate! Hopefully, we will be sharing a drink in the pub, at a party, or at a festival in the near future.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope to see you at the viewing evening!

Kind regards,

Henco"

 “Hello Henco!

Jesper here, I saw your post on Facebook indicating that you are looking for a housemate. What a coincidence, as I am looking for a new room;). I would like to briefly tell you a bit more about myself. I am 20 years old, studying Biomedical and Health Sciences; I currently work at the Municipal Health Service (GGD) and unfortunately need to leave my student accommodation. However, I am fully prepared to make myself at home in a new place. The property looks beautiful! Apart from work, I occasionally go running and am trying to resume my gym routine haha.

I look forward to hearing from you! 🙂

Kind regards, Jesper”

"Hello House TBS!

I saw your announcement regarding an available room in your house. I am looking for a new room due to my new studies in Nijmegen. I have responded via DingDong but thought I would also let you know through this channel. Since I am a social person and share the same DJ hobby, I thought I might be a good fit haha.

If you have already found someone, that is unfortunate, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Kind regards, Julia😁"
